THE SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPORTANCE OF NURSING RESEARCH

       





      Research is the driving force that moves a generation to the next. It is the core of human innovation that has served humanity all throughout history, the giant leap in the advancement felt today was made possible through research. Everything that we are enjoying now are all products of research, it has improved the quality of life and have made things easier, from getting things done with just a tap on the screen to the luxury of travelling from one place to another. One great help of research is its benefit to medical field specially to nursing profession. Nursing research is defined as a formal, systematic, and rigorous process of inquiry used by nurses to generate and test the concepts and propositions that constitute middle-range nursing theories, which are derived from or linked with a conceptual model of nursing. It is the backbone that supports nursing profession and helps provide evidence-base practice.







     As we advance, diseases and illnesses are continuously evolving, what is known today may not be relevant tomorrow. And this is where the significance and importance of research in nursing comes in. Nursing research is what keeps nurses around the globe stay up to date with latest medical advancement, like a new discovered drug for a certain disease or a new treatment that could prolong the life expectancy of patients who are suffering from chronic diseases, and through this, health practitioner can now render proper and precise interventions needed to achieve optimum patient wellness. It helps in the generation of ideas and knowledge needed to strengthen cognitive abilities, technical skills, and characteristics which a nurse must possess in order to deliver care not just with preciseness but with a touch of both empathy and sympathy. In addition, it helps make precise and quick health-related decisions when face in situations where a patient needs an immediate treatment. A benefit appreciated specially if you are assigned in ER. Moreover, it gives nurses control over incident like unwanted outcomes which puts the life of your patient at risk. And we do not want that, do we? 😉 After all patient's wellness comes first.



      
     Throughout many generations research has proved its effectiveness, millions of lives were saved from diseases that was untreatable before like polio and malaria and it took countless of lives away. Now we have treatments and vaccines that can battle this disease and it was all made possible by those individuals who have devoted themselves in the pursuit of answers, which is why as a nursing student we need to encourage ourselves to learn and understand research. Making a change is what we should aim because nursing profession is continuously growing, we need to build a better version of ourselves able to make contributions that would influence nursing as a whole. Remember that a tiny step taken is way better than none at all. What you do now might save a life later, so take a leap of faith and believe in your ability and curiosity.
